ray hanania on the stupidity of pro-hamas leftie activists

well, no surprises here – ray hanania, writing in the jerusalem post, finds plenty to criticise about the sort of activist that is perpetuating the sad situation in the gaza strip, in the now-established tradition of leftie imbeciles sucking up to clerical fascists as an act of anti-imperialist egotism.

and, of course there’s none more egotistical that our good friend, saddam-fancying cat-impersonator ”gorgeous george”.

These are strange bedfellows in the Palestinian extremist camps, religious fanatics shoulder-to-shoulder with secular extremists like the Popular Front and the rejectionists led by the activists and fawned on by the Arab media that mistakenly believe “freedom” means embracing the most extremist activists.

you never spoke a truer word, ray.  for G!D’s sake, please keep doing this. palestine needs your sanity, rationality and humanity, rather than serving to remind us all of the intransigence and lack of compassion for real human beings – other than as symbols of something-or-other-from-la-la-land-ideology – demonstrated by these smug, self-satisfied self-publicists:

Saudi deradicalisation initiative

Shiraz Maher has a piece over at the Wall Street Journal explaining why Saudi “deradicalisation” prisons are failing. I’ve reproduced it in full below.

It is now clear that the failed terrorist attack by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab on Christmas Day was directed by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). The reasons for the sudden resurgence of this previously almost extinct chapter of the global jihad network lie not in Yemen, though—where AQAP is based—but across the border in Saudi Arabia.

For three years the Saudi Kingdom has been experimenting with a deradicalization program for captured Islamist terrorists in the CARE Rehabilitation Center. Rather than turning the jihadists into productive members of society, however, the center has replenished the terrorists’ troops by releasing some extremists who immediately rejoined al Qaeda. Unwilling to challenge their own brand of radical Islam, Wahhabism, the Saudis don’t seem ideologically best equipped to resocialize Islamist terrorists.

Wakkas Khan: Faithful Islamist

This is a cross-post by habibi of Harry’s Place

****

Here’s some news from the Department for Communities and Local Government. It has established a panel of 13 “faith advisers who will act as a ’sounding board’ to advise on effective engagement with faith communities, and the impact of Communities and Local Government policy on faith communities”. Here’s John Denham:

“This new panel brings together an unprecedented wealth of knowledge and experience that will help advise on the big issues facing society such as the economy, parenting, achieving social justice and tackling climate change.

“For millions of people the values instilled by their faith are central to shaping their behaviour. We should continually seek ways of supporting and enhancing the contribution faith makes to the decision-making process on the central issues of our time.

Another Al-Q supporting Islamist hate-preacher linked to UCL

Shaykh Khalid Yasin  is a U.S.-born Muslim convert, based in Atlanta, Georgia, who has been a popular guest speaker at Muslim Students Association (MSA) events on college campuses across the United States for some time.

Yasin has also lived in Britain from time to time. In the past, he has lectured with Omar Bakri Mohammed (the one-time leader of Hizb ut-Tahrir UK and founder of the pro Al-Qaida group, Al-Muhajiroun), who was banned from the United Kingdom because of his religious extremism in 2006.

One review of Yasin’s activities includes the following interesting  report:

On September 11, 2001, Yasin was in Saudi Arabia soliciting the support of an al Qaeda front known as the Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation – which eventually would be designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government – to help finance the creation of his proposed “Islamic Broadcasting Company” (IBC).

The House of Saud like you’ve never seen them before!

This is a cross-post by Shiraz Maher from Standpoint Magazine

*******************

The Saudi royal family is massive, comprising of an estimated 7000 or so members. Like any family, they have diverse interests.

Recently, one of King Abdullah’s brothers, Prince Faisal bin Mansour, has decided to try his hand at becoming an R&B singer. He even sings about the usual topics of R&B songs – promiscuity, partying, frivolity – but from a uniquely Saudi perspective.

For example, here he is singing: ‘Never Too Late’.

It was at this at this party / where I saw this shorty / and she was all over the place / tried to get male attention / by wearing short dresses / but she had a sad look on her face / young sister / you ain’t gotta dress the way that you seen on TV / be true to (Allah) yourself nobody else / and believe me you’re gonna be free / everybody makes mistakes / but it’s no reason to lose your faith / just believe that God is great / and inshalla you’ll find your way

Time for Atonement by Viva Palestine

This is a guest post by Eyal

****

Following the riots by Viva Palestine supporters, Egyptian authorities have declared George Galloway a persona-non-grata in Egypt. The latest news now is that as a result of Viva Palestine’s behavior, Egyptian authorities have decided to ban all aid conveys through their territory.

Well, those pro-Hamas “human-rights” folks can really pat themselves on the back. They have finally achieved something: through their narcissistic self-righteousness, their provocative actions, and their explicit contempt for anyone not supportive of Hamas clerical fascists, the population of Gaza is now worse off than before. Good job!

Since they won’t be journeying to Gaza anytime soon, now would be a good time for the people of Viva Palestine, and those associated with them, to re-examine themselves and their conduct.

Dishonest BNP spins article by George Carey and deliberately misquotes him

This is a cross-post by Edmund Standing

****

The BNP likes to present itself as a party that tells the truth, unlike mainstream political parties that rely on lies, misrepresentation and spin, but have yet again demonstrated that this is far from the case.

Former Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, recently wrote an article for the Times on immigration and the rise of the BNP. Carey was immediately denounced by the BNP Legal Director as an ‘idiot’ working for ‘Zionists’, but the BNP’s official statement on the article has wisely avoided following Barnes’s line (as it usually does). The BNP website’s take on Carey’s article (‘Lord Carey predicts BNP victory in Dagenham’) puts a typically dishonest spin on what he actually said. From the BNP’s commentary, you’d think Carey was on the verge of joining the party and it appears that he has endorsed them.

Quilliam hosts Mehdi Hasan and the Conservatives

Presenting the antisemitic, anti-Sunni, anti-atheist, ‘non-Muslims are cattle‘, ‘Muslim World-ist‘, big-C Conservative hating ‘progressive leftist‘ - that’s right folks, Mehdi Hasan hosted by Quilliam Foundation and the Conservatives in a day-long love fest, apparently. Who would have guessed it?

This is a time of unprecedented change for British Muslims. With Muslims facing rising levels of anti-Muslim sentiment, hostility due to terrorism and other factors, questions are increasingly being asked about what it means to be British and Muslim both in the challenging present and uncertain future. It is in this context that we, in co-operation with the Al-Karimia Institute and the St Paul’s Institute, would like to invite you to the first in a series of events designed to build trust and confidence between Muslim thought leaders.

This is an invitation-only event, aimed for a limited number of some of Britain’s most influential Muslim thinkers, activists and scholars to attend and discuss issues of socio-political importance. The gathering will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral, London, on Saturday 23rd January 2010.
