Anwar al-Awlaki And His Online Supporters

It has been widely reported that, since his disgusting statement in support of Major Hasan’s actions in Fort Hood, the blog belonging to Anwar al-Awlaki has been taken down. Who by is still unclear, but one detail has gone unreported. Yesterday, this message was posted:

website coming back online

Assaalmu’alaykum all

The website will be back to normal with a few days time.

If it does come back online this would be an unfortunate development. However, with Awlaki on the run in Yemen, it is most likely that this message was posted by an anonymous supporter, not the man himself. Anyway now his Facebook page is also down we at the Spittoon thought we’d highlight a few people who probably thought this would protect them from being busted as Awlaki supporters on Facebook.

Yvonne Ridley is also a fan of herself. Narcissist.

The Press TV Pantomime

Seth Freedman has written a great piece for Comment is Free. In it he demolishes any lingering shreds of an argument that Press TV could be described as anything other than a propaganda mouthpiece for the Iranian state. When Press TV was launched two years ago, Yvonne Ridley, one of the station’s presenters, was effusive in her praise of her paymasters: “I see it as an antidote to Fox TV that will give a different perspective to the coverage that you get from the mainstream media. It’s not shock TV, tabloid TV or propaganda promoting reactionaryism.”

Have a look at one of the speakers – Malaysian cleric Hussein Ye (sometimes spelled Yee). He was trained at the Islamic University of Medina in Saudi Arabia and is considered a Wahhabi in Malaysia. This clip opens with an invocation:

“May Allah help all the mujahideen, especially in Palestine, especially in Iraq, and wherever they are, who fight to protect human rights.”

Ye goes on to claim – in a speech delivered in 2006 – that America has “no hot proof” of who carried out the 9/11 atrocities. Then he slips in this little observation:
