Bungles Continues Comical Crusade Against Quilliam

Further to his increasingly pathetic obsession with anybody who stands against Islamism in the UK, Inayat Bunglawala has launched (via his iEngage group) yet another attack on Quilliam,. This time he is citing a report from the Redbridge Faith Forum.

The already microscopically minuscule credibility of the Quilliam Foundation has suffered yet another hugely embarrassing setback with the publication of a new report from the Redbridge Faith Forum.

The report produced by Redbridge Faith Forum (RFF) for Redbridge Safer Communities Partnership (RSCP), entitled, “Conversations with Muslim Community leaders in Redbridge about the Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) Agenda”, finds that contrary to the views articulated by the anti-Muslim brigade at Harry’s Place, the QF has no following whatsoever among British Muslims.

According to the RFF report:

‘…negative view[s] towards the Quilliam Foundation [were] held almost universally by all participants and corroborated by attending meetings including Understanding Redbridge Communities (URC) meeting.’

Has Tower Hamlets Council been Infiltrated by Islamists?

Information about the high levels of interwoven activity between Labour Party councillors working for Tower Hamlets council and Islamist activists in East London Mosque (London Muslim Centre) appears to be reaching the public domain.

An article in the Sunday Express yesterday, by Ted Jeory, details the extent to which the Labour party in Tower Hamlets is infiltrated by members of the Saudi-backed hardline Islamist group, the Islamic Forum Europe (IFE):

The growing influence of the East London Mosque, whose education wing was built with Saudi money, on the Labour party is causing concern in Downing Street.

Gordon Brown, Justice Secretary Jack Straw and new Communities Secretary John Denham have been briefed on Islamic groups based there.

Party officials have held crisis talks about one group in particular, the Islamic Forum of Europe.

Senior party members fear it has infiltrated Labour and exerts too much power over MPs and councillors in areas with large Muslim populations.

Respect Party: Disrespecting Women

Pots, Prams and Politics. Flyer for RESPECT Youth event tomorrow.
Pots, Prams and Politics. Flyer for tomorrow’s RESPECT Youth event.

Respect Youth are holding a women only event in Bethnal Green tomorrow to support Abjol Miah’s bid to succeed George Galloway as Respect MP for Bethnal Green and Bow. Here is a flyer (pdf) for the event.

If their website is to be believed, Respect are committed to equal rights for women. They claim to want to see a world in which a woman’s contribution is fully valued and rewarded. Noble stuff, but not exactly borne out by the evidence of this flyer.

Entitled “Pots, Prams and Politics”, it is a fairly shocking example of sexism. Not only does the title make painfully clear what Respect considers a woman’s role to be (in the kitchen/looking after children/getting Respect re-elected) – there’s a not-so-progressive subtitle too.

Behind every man is a Woman and behind every leading woman is her Respect.

Do Muslims have Special Needs?

This is a guest post by Ibn Khaldun
****

Are Muslims a ‘special needs’ case?

An increasing amount of attention and tax payers’ money is being paid towards initiatives which focus on Muslim issues. Muslim participation in politics, Muslim achievement in education, Muslim women’s participation in mainstream life etc. etc. No other faith group or ethnic group is being lavished with such attention and funds. We now even have the YMAG (Young Muslim Advisory Group) which allows young Muslims in sit in on government consultations and put their views directly to Ministers. There is a whole plethora of initiatives to train Imams, to teach them English and about British society in general.

The old new face of British politics

Fascist

Fascist MEP, Andrew Brons

Andrew Brons of the BNP is the second of two newly elected MEPs in the Euro elections. The other, of course, is Nick Griffin. There is more on Brons from HopeNotHate.

Brons, 61, started his nazi career in the National Socialist Movement, an organisation that was deliberately founded on Hitler’s birthday by Colin Jordan, the British nazi leader who died in April aged 85. NSM members were responsible for an arson campaign against Jewish property and synagogues in the 1960s.

Brons appears to have approved. In a letter to Jordan’s wife, Brons reported meeting an NSM member who “mentioned such activities as bombing synagogues”. He declared: “On This subject I have a dual view, in that I realise that he is well intentioned, I feel that our public image may suffer considerable damage as a result of these activities. I am however open to correction on this point.”

Breaking News: Hazel Blears resigns

Sky News say the beleaguered Secretary of State for Communities, Hazel Blears has resigned.

It’s a terrible shame if she’s gone. Over recent months she has shown great moral clarity and conviction by challenging the nasty views of men like Daud Abdullah in the Muslim Council of Britain. Earlier this year he essentially endorsed attacks against the Royal Navy and promoted the Islamist view that Muslims should wage a perpetual war against Israel until it is finally overwhelmed.

Blears’ departure is a real blow to a cabinet in need of serious leadership. It underscores that Gordon Brown is rapidly losing both his authority, and also all sense of reality if he thinks that holding on for an election next summer will deliver anything other than the defeat of his administration. In the meantime, the unravelling of his government is undignified and a national embarrassment.

We need an election now.

Saudi Arabia’s double standards

Sadiq Khan, Minister of Cohesion, visited Saudi Arabia last week and became the first western minister to make the pilgramage to Mecca. He also visited Medina, where he had this to say about the University of Medina:

“I was encouraged by the university’s obvious commitment to ensure that the students have sufficient expertise and knowledge to stand in the way of violent extremism.”

Earlier this month, US Defense Secretary Robert Gates was equally impressed with Saudi Arabia’s rehabilitation program for former militants and its newfound committment to tackling anti-extremism at home and has been helping Pakistan in its efforts to contain the Taliban insurgency there.

Who let the dogs out?

Everyone’s favourite Sheikh, Omar “won’t the Royal Navy please save me?” Bakri has announced that al-Muhajiroun is being ‘re-launched’. In truth, the group has continued to act as a unit ever since Bakri theoretically disbanded them in 2004, so it will be interesting to see what the practical affect of this announcement turns out to be.

Here’s where it gets interesting.

Everyone says that al-Muhajiroun is banned, but the press release announcing the re-launch of the group says:

We would also like to stress particularly to the British public that Al-Muhajiroun is a completely legal organisation and hence the recommencement of its structure, activities and projects should be seen in this light.

I started investigating this and it turns out that the Statutory Instrument (pdf) which announced the ban in 2006 only officially proscribes two of al-Muhajiroun’s successor groups – al-Ghurabaa and The Saved Sect. Therefore, as it stands, al-Muhajiroun is technically legal.

Less Racism, More Homophobia

The Rev George Hargreaves leader of the Christian Party has a problem. He desperately wants to distinguish and distance his party from the BNP.

“Now is the time for the Church to practically show that the racist attitudes of the BNP have no place in the Church. We are making this election virtually a one-issue campaign: to distance the Church and all right minded people from the tactics, beliefs and attitudes of a party which seeks to further disintegrate Britain and damage community relations”

For Hargreaves, the BNP poses two tactical problems. Firstly, he believes that the BNP has benefited from  endorsement from the Church of England but he wants that spiritual respectability conferred to his extremist views. Secondly and more obviously, the BNP is an overtly racist party of white supremacists and for Hargreaves, who is black, this is problematic.

Why we must ban Hizb-ut-Tahrir now

Last week I blogged about the alleged attack on Maajid Nawaz by a British member of Hizb ut Tahrir. It happened while he was touring Pakistan, warning students about the dangers of Islamism. The Guardian covered his trip at the weekend and also revealed that:

[Maajid] used the lecture tour to make an allegation against HT. He said the organisation had launched a covert mission to recruit serving Pakistani officers to help foment a military coup. Its focus was officers visiting Britain for military training at Sandhurst. Nawaz said the group managed to recruit several officers. “We sent them to Pakistan to infiltrate the army. They were recruiting for three years and tried to mount a coup,” he said.

It confirms what we had all feared: that Islamist groups are exporting terror and subversion from this country. What is most worrying about this is that HuT remains legal in Britain and is actively plotting to undermine our allies abroad. Worse still, that ally is highly unstable, a failing state (if not failed already) and, lethally, a nuclear power.
