We are all Neocons now!

This is a guest post by The Arabian Neocon and is part 1 of a 2 part report.

******************

Where to begin with all this? While I unravel the issues here I implore you, gentle reader, to persevere. It gets good. Trust me.

Idrees 2Muhammad Idrees Ahmad is a snotty paranoiac doing a PhD at the University of Strathclyde. In his own words he is currently ‘researching the role of lobbies, think tanks and foundations in furnishing the propaganda for the war in Iraq’.

Now then, the crackpot theories of an overworked and undersexed postgrad do not usually merit much attention. But then, I discovered that Idrees has been going around compiling ‘wiki’ pages on all my friends for his new website ‘Neocon Europe’. It is the invasive nature in which he sought out that information that first brought him to my attention. The website supposedly aims to:

It’s the Israelis Wot Killed Jacko

After pondering the question of whether Michael Jackson would receive an Islamic funeral, MPACUK now reports that an Israeli drugs company was linked to his death. Their title is pretty clear (Israeli Company Linked To Michael Jackson’s Death) but the facts are much less so.

An Israeli pharmaceutical company has recalled two batches of an anesthetic drug connected to the investigation of Michael Jackson’s death.

The anesthetic was found in Jackson’s home following his death last month, the Associated Press reported.

Teva Pharmaceuticals recalled two lots of propofol after 40 people in three states got sick from bacterial contamination. A Teva spokeswoman told the news service that the tracking number on the tainted lots was different from the number on the vial found at Jackson’s home.

The drug is normally used in hospitals to render patients unconscious during surgery. Investigators are seeking to trace how the drug came into Jackson’s possession.

Picking on Moderates

Articles here at the Spittoon tend to be quite controversial. For this we make no apologies. Normally this provokes the ire of members of Hizb ut-Tahrir, Jamaat-e-Islami and other Islamist groups, but on one particular occasion I guest posted a piece written by ‘Al-Qanaas Al-Masri’. It investigated links between the City Circle and IIIT, a group whose US branch is closely linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, and was entitled ‘The City Circle – Not So Moderate After All?’

This sent certain individuals into a tailspin. Not because of what was suggested by the article (none of its many critics attempted a refutation of the points it made) but because its author had the audacity to pick on moderates. These critics missed the point. The post was not a bitter attempt to blacken the name of people doing good work, rather it sought to point out to a moderate organisation that some of its allies were letting the side down.

Political Islam and Civil Service Neutrality

Paul Richards talks, in the Jewish Chronicle, about how Whitehall mandarins failed to apply the centuries-old convention, which subject British civil servants to political neutrality, in the case of Azad Ali.

I am not going to blame Azad Ali. He thinks his employers helped to build “the terrorist slaughter machine of the Zionist state of Israel”.

So I would guess that he’s unlikely to be a great respecter of Britain’s quaint traditions when it comes to civil service neutrality. And I suppose you can’t blame him for pursuing his political goals, if that is what he believes.

But what about the Permanent Secretary at the Treasury, and the Cabinet Secretary, who is head of the Civil Service?

Fun with Maps

This article is cross-posted from Harry’s Place as a guest-post by habibi.

****

The self-styled Muslim Association of Britain and Palestinian Solidarity Campaign have found a new cause: campaigning against ads for Israeli tourism in London.

Posters have recently appeared in London Underground tube stations advertising Israel as a tourist destination. The map on the advert depicts Israel as incorporating the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights.

Please write to London Underground, the Advertising Standards Agency and CBS Outdoors – the company which manages the poster sites – asking for the removal of these posters, which deliberately deny the existence of Palestine.

I’m sure the MAB’s and PSC’s next righteous struggle for cartographic accuracy will target groups using logos like these:

Interpal, a British charity linked to Hamas:

The Palestinian Return Centre, a pro-Hamas political group based in London:
