Raed Salah Released on Bail

The British pro-Hamas group, Friends of Al-Aqsa are very happy to announce their hero Raed Salah, the anti-Jewish bigot and so-called “Gandhi of Palestine”, has been released on bail and is free to spread his message of Jew-hatred in Britain.

The news has been received with joy by Salah’s supporters from the Muslim religious-right of Britain. It means Salah is free to do more of this kind of thing in this country:

Inayat Bunglawala, for example, was so perturbed by the detention of this particular hate-preacher that he dropped all erstwhile pretence of being a “liberal Muslim” and exposed his true associations:

From today, I am adding a number of links to websites that the Zionists would rather wish you and I would not look at including Hizbullah’s al-Manar, al-Jazeera, Press TV. I will add to it in the coming days and weeks, insha’ Allah. Do encourage others to do the same to counteract the influence of a largely craven British media.

Abdulmutallab’s ISoc and University of Birmingham ISoc – A Connection?

This is a guest post by Mr Happy

Just days after Jalal Ibn Saeed, aka Mister “A good death is a slow one”, was allowed to preach his lecture on death at the University of Birmingham, the peace-loving moderates at the University Islamic Society are hosting Abdul Raheem Green on Saturday 12 February.

Abdul Raheem Green is the hate preacher famous for telling his audience that in the event one’s wife should be strayed from the holy path, feel free to beat her into submission, with the caveat, that the beating should be “very light”. I don’t quite know what a very light beating consists of though Green does tells his audience that your beatings shouldn’t leave a mark on your wife.

It also turns out that Green isn’t that keen on gay people either. In a Harry’s Place piece on hate-preachers hosting a conference at the Ibis hotel, it was reported:

Niqabi Road Rage

Here is an example of why, religious law or no religious law – if apprehended by a policeman for dangerous driving then women who wear the niqab must be prepared to remove the face veil to have the proper identity checks. The video is a news story of a woman who was stopped for dangerous driving, refused to comply take off her niqab, then proceeded to falsely accuse the arresting policeman of racism. Fortunately the entire exchange was filmed and the good sister was subsequently imprisoned.

If she feels inconvenienced by law which obliges her to remove her niqab when apprehended by a policeman, rather than accuse the law of racism, she can choose to live in Saudi Arabia, where she won’t have to drive, because being a woman, Saudi Islamic law does not allow her to get behind a wheel. Remember, if you wear a niqab, you are not allowed any more privileges than anyone else. And that means you, sister.

The Hounding of M F Husain

India's grand master: forced to flee his homeland due to Hindu extremism and state censorship

Nick Cohen has a remarkable piece on the continuing suppression of freedom of speech and the glorification of “offence taking” by the far-right Hindu extremists in India, led by Bal Thackeray and the army of thugs from the Shiv Sena:

Why pick on Husain for sketches no one found disturbing when he first released them? Read his accusers, and they cannot justify their charges of blasphemy or obscenity. How can they when Husain’s paintings are not remotely pornographic but part of a deliberate attempt by the artist and his contemporaries to continue Indian traditions?

See ya, don’t wanna be ya

We bring good news.

The hate preacher, Zakir Naik, will not be returning to the United Kingdom. You can read the judgement here.

Religious hate-preachers of any faith and denomination with a record of inciting hate should be barred from entry into the UK. Including the less obvious ones.

ovadia yosef now officially candidate for tinfoil hat

the 90 year-old rabbi ovadia yosef is a controversial political and religious figure, to say the least. as emeritus sephardi chief rabbi of israel, the leading sephardi voice in the haredi world and de facto leader of the ultra-religious “shas” party (the only officially zionist haredi party) which forms part of the current israeli coalition government, he is a figure of considerable influence around the world and a key political player in israeli politics, as well as being the perennial winner of the “snazziest traditional get-up, complete with turban and sunglasses” award.

religious people need to recommit to and engage with critical thinking

following an unusually thoughtful broadcast last week by richard dawkins (he’s obviously trying to take on board how much his militancy turns people off by some of the pleas he made on behalf of sacred texts as fine language, cultural literacy and so on) i am grappling again with some of the issues raised by faith schools in the critical thinking debate. dawkins, as per usual, lumped all faith schools together as a) proponents of segregation (for which there is some justification) and b) closers, rather than openers of young minds – the segment in which he, somewhat exasperatedly, grappled with the islamic school science class with an apparent 100% rejection of evolution was a powerful statement. however, also as per usual, he implied (by saying that he “worried that”) this was inevitable in a situation where the parents’ wishes about what they wanted their children exposed to overruled the presumed human rights of children to make up their own mind about what they thought was interesting or worthwhile. this argument was given short shrift by a catholic educationalist from northern ireland, who told him he was simply imposing his own expectations over those of the parents concerned; i personally thought they struggled with the editing a little if they were seeking to show that the wishes of parents were unreasonable; this wasn’t the strongest argument i’ve ever seen against faith schools. in my opinion, they’d have done better to concentrate on the ethos of these schools as exclusivist and contrary to “community cohesion”, but then again, what do i know?

Now Naik is barred from Canada, Philips from Britain

Good news from our Canadian friends. Props to Tarek Fatah!

An Indian Muslim televangelist who was banned from Britain last week for “unacceptable behaviour” will not be allowed into Canada to speak at an upcoming conference in Toronto, sources familiar with the situation have told the National Post.

Dr. Zakir Naik, who has said “every Muslim should be a terrorist” and that Jews are “our staunchest enemy,” was to headline next month’s Journey of Faith Conference — which is billed as one of North America’s largest Islamic conferences and is expected to attract upward of 10,000 people.

Meanwhile, here in Britain the salafi hate-preacher, Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips, has been banned from entry into Britain and forced to enjoy the delights of Doha.
