Britain should become more Christian, says Baroness Warsi

How will Britain cure itself of its social ills? Baroness Warsi has the answer: By becoming more Christian.

Writing in today’s Daily Telegraph, she says: “We need to create a country where people don’t feel like they have to leave religion at the door. That means being proud of Christianity, not downgrading it. It means encouraging people to say that their faith inspires what they do.

Lady Warsi said it was a “mistake to assume that you compromise your identity the more you try to understand others”. “The stronger your understanding of your neighbour, the stronger your own religious identity becomes.

Warsi sounds quite sensible in print. But it is on televised appearances where she is not afraid to be  far more candid about what she really means:

SpinWatch Lobbying Event Cancelled

It could have been a great photo opportunity for David Miller, the self-styled lobby group guru behind the shady SpinWatch outfit, to pose, all smiles, in front of the camera with the Cordoba Foundation, the pro-Hamas lobby group, and Bob Lambert, recently exposed police spy. But unfortunately this happy confluence of Islamist lobby groups, police spies and putative anti-lobby group academics that had been arranged around a book launch event at the Jamaat-controlled London Muslim Centre this month will not be going ahead. The Cordoba Foundation have posted an announcement to say that the event has been cancelled due to “Unforseen circumstances”.

The Cordoba Foundation regretfully announces that the forthcoming event on the 8th of November ‘Launch of Two Ground Breaking Pieces of Research’ has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. We apologise for any incovenience caused.

Ayesha Siddiqa on the meltdown in Pakistan

It is with some quiet satisfaction that I read this article by the highly regarded Pakistani journalist and commentator Ayesha Siddiqa. The points I have been making on Pakistan over the past year, she confirms. She writes forcefully, but not without a hint of resignation and sadness, on two main points:

1) The public institutions of the judiciary, executive and military have been infiltrated by far-right religious-nationalist groups (such as the Jamaat or Tehreek-i-Taliban – let’s use the term Islamists  to define them) to such an extent that the autonomy and legitimacy of civil institutions have been deeply compromised.

Beyond Parody

And now for something completely different. There is plenty of parody jihadi material doing the rounds on YouTube but the unintentional humour of Sheikh Abu Waleed from MAC (Munching A Chicken-wing) never fails to delight.

The only difference is Abu Waleed isn’t doing parody. His stuff is for real!

There’s the parody of the parody, ragga-stylee:

And then there’s the acoustic parody of the parody of the parody:

Jamaat seeks Presidential pardon for Mumtaz Qadri

As the Jamaat-e-Islam here in London gear up their lobby groups to agitate for impunity for their Bangladeshi numbers involved in genocide, their fellows in Jamaat-e-Islam Pakistan are calling for their assassin, Mumtaz Qadri  to be pardoned by presidential decree. Qadri, you will remember, was the bodyguard of Salman Taseer, the governor of Punjab, whom Qadri shot in broad daylight. Taseer was killed because he publicly criticised Pakistan’s Blasphemy Law which has been used as a blunt tool to repress religious minorities. JI says anyone can file a pardon plea on behalf of the sentenced person whether they wish it or not.

SpinWatch Supports the work of Bob Lambert, the Police Spy and Lobbyist

On David Miller’s SpinWatch site is an open letter to spy master Bob Lambert, soliciting him with an opportunity to clear his name in the face of recent “allegations”.

Miller opens the letter with some boilerplate text about being firmly opposed to “the infiltration of activist groups by the forces of the state, corporations and the private security industry”:

Spinwatch has – from the very beginning in 2004 – been involved in investigating the infiltration of activist groups by the forces of the state, corporations and the private security industry.  One of the earliest cases we examined was the infiltration of London Greenpeace, with which you have reportedly been associated. Since then we have done extended work on the infiltration of the Campaign Against the Arms Trade (The Threat Response Spy Files) and most recently on the 2010/11 case of police spy Mark Kennedy. We have done this work in close collaboration with the activists who have been infiltrated, destabilized and betrayed. Spinwatch stands in solidarity with the infiltrated.

More Revelations On Lambert Surface

New revelations of Bob Lambert’s activities as a Special Branch cop when he led a number of infiltrators into left-wing organisations in the eighties are beginning to surface. But it is his own work as a police spy when he posed as a member of London Greenpeace which has brought out the most damaging allegations. Not least of these comes from Bob Lambert’s ex-girlfriend:

"High Moral Code"

A former police spymaster who spent years living deep undercover in the protest movement has confessed he tricked an innocent woman into having a long-term relationship with him, as part of an elaborate attempt to lend “credibility” to his alter ego.

Bob Lambert, who adopted a false identity to infiltrate leftwing and animal rights groups, said he had the 18-month relationship with the woman, who was not herself involved in political activism, as part of his cover story.

Why doesn’t the Balochistan cause attract popular support?

While Pakistan fails to bears its share of the responsibility for reducing civilian deaths by drone strikes, there is another low-level ethnic war of oppression that it is waging on its own citizens. Tragically, it is a war which receives far less media coverage than ‘The War Against Terror’  or US drone attacks or the catalogue of troubles which have afflicted Pakistan in recent years. The deaths of more than 1,000 ethnic Balochis since March 2008 caused as a result of the Pakistan government’s military crackdown of the nationalist insurgency is not a cause supported by the likes of Amnesty’s Bin Laden-loving poster boy, Muazzam Begg, although Amnesty have flagged instances of mass atrocities committed by the Pakistan government.

On Drone Strikes

In Pakistan, drone strikes have killed hundreds of non-combatant civilians. This means many more victims than have been previously reported, including the deaths of 168 children. The deaths of these non-combatant civilians should be challenged by every sensible person.

The responsibility is on the US and Pakistan governments, together, to try and reduce the numbers of these deaths; a point made by Christopher Rogers of CIVIC:

In a recent study by the Campaign for Innocent Victims of Conflict (CIVIC), report author Christopher Rogers said: “It’s almost certain that US drone strikes are causing more civilian casualties than the US has thus far admitted”.

He told Channel 4 News “faulty intelligence” could be leading to civilian deaths.

He said: “In our research… in a number of instances there was no doubt that faulty ‘intel’ was to blame – hitting a pro-government peace committee member’s house, for instance. In other cases, though victims stated that militants were indeed killed in the strike, non-combatant civilians were hit collaterally. i.e. a militant car passing by a house that collapsed from the blast.”
