The Pakistan government has gone into damage control mode after the evidence of the ISI’s involvement in Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan was exposed and confirmed on WikiLeaks. The Pakistan ambassador to USA, Husain Haqqani has penned an article in the WSJ, to undermine the veracity of the reports.
The documents circulated by WikiLeaks do not even remotely reflect the current realities on the ground. For example, a retired Pakistani general is named as the master planner of the Afghan Taliban’s strategy. But this is a man who hasn’t held any position within Pakistani intelligence or the military for more than 20 years. For its part, Pakistan’s current leadership will not be distracted by something like these leaks. We have paid an unprecedented price in blood and treasure over the last two years. We will not succumb to the terrorists.
Who is Husain Haqqani? According to this report, when he was a student at Karachi University, Haqqani was the elected president of the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT), the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan’s premier far-right Islamist party.
And who is the the retired Pakistani general “named as the master planner of the Afghan Taliban’s strategy” whose hands-on involvement Haqqani is keen to deny in his latest WSJ article? He is Lt General Hamid Gul, who is personally identified dozens of times in the leaked reports and referenced in 8 reports as an “enabler” of the Taliban.
And here’s Gul himself, making an appearance on al-Jazeera, doing his best to debunk the WikiLeaks as “fictional” and a “pack of lies” and claiming that they were created by:
“Independent civilian contractors penetrated by Afghan intelligence, who are very inefficient, the Indians who have their own axe to grind, and Mossad, the Israeli intelligence”
So there you have it. A note of advice from an old pro – if ever you find yourself named in leaked intelligence reports and accused of:
- Smuggling magnetic mines into Afghanistan
- Attacking NATO troops
- Of plotting to kidnap UN staff to bargain for imprisoned Pakistani militants
- Of meeting Arab militants from al-Qaeda in Pakistan’s tribal belt to send suicide vehicles into Afghanistan
blame the Afghans, the Indians and the Israelis.

Dont be surprised if Israel, India & Afghanistan are all ganging up against Pakistan, in “Wiki-leaking” these 911 phone call reports from Afghan civilians. Any frantic civilian can make an FIR police report that “the Pak ISI is creating the war” !!
Recently Israel dropped the Gaza ball, India went into Iran-related fracas, & Karzai country in constant corruption rackets, all three have fallen from White House popularity list, except Pakistan.
Is the US “intelligent” enough to understand all this, or is it more WMD,
ie bad intel created by ‘good guys’ ?
Poor little nuclear-tipped Pakistan, with its out-of-control intelligence service, armed forces that are not even trusted by their own high command and seething with jihadi… and now “being ganged up on” by regional and global powers allegedly.
My heart bleeds.
Abu Faris,
Fear not, the Gods of USA still shower the peers of Pak power, and the Liki-Weak only get more jealous by the day.
If that made any sense whatsoever to anybody, might they drop me a line and explain it to me. Thanks in advance.
blame the Afghans, the Indians and the Israelis.
…sez Hamid Gul. Not him, sez he.
Scratch an Islamist, find a liar.
If that made no sense, then how on heaven did 90,000 Wiki Leak documents make any sense? Was blaming Pak thru Wiki the objective of this drama, or just a self-fulfilling prophecy?
Was blaming Pak thru Wiki the objective of this drama, or just a self-fulfilling prophecy?
Neither. The WikiLeaks were classified intelligence docs for internal use and intelligence lies only. Their authenticity is acknowledged by the US gov and independent experts. There is nothing in them that observers of the war didn’t already know. They simply confirm much of what we know.
Pakistani intelligence and military top brass never went on public record to refute the reports over the years but now they are lining up to deny the authenticity of 90,000 “false” docs. That says a lot.
No, Kzgai – your comment made no sense whatsoever. The more I read your statements, the further I go cross-eyed trying to extract any semblance of sense from them. I think I will stop before I develop a migraine.
The purpose of the leaks was not to blame Pakistan, its just a fact that Pakistan does support terrorist groups.
If its ‘just a fact’, then why go gaga on the ‘leaks’ ? The real fact is that there are more terrorist groups in India, Israel & Afghan than in Pak (just google it), and their respective intel outfits RAW, Mossad & Taleban have fueled more terrorism than apparently Pak’s ISI.
The real fact is that there are more terrorist groups in India, Israel & Afghan than in Pak
Have you considered a career in stand-up?
No, I am too busy laughing at you

The Pakistanis are deeply concerned about losing their western border to a pro-Indian Tajik led government.
If the coalition nations have the right to travel thousands of miles to defend their sovereignty, then why lose sleep over Pakistan covertly securing their western border – they call it strategic depth. This is the same Pakistan which played a significant role in fighting through two world wars for Britain (www.britainsmuslimsoldiers.co.uk), for assisting in the liberation of Soviet invaded Afghanistan, in 2001 it allowed for the destabilisation of Al Qaeda and Taliban hierarchy.
Pakistan cannot allow for another vacuum scenario which occurred with the post Soviet withdrawal. The failure of the world community to act upon its promise of a reconstruction programme facilitated the ensuing chaos which in turn resulted in the arrival of AQ and Mullah Omar. The US are now busy positioning themselves for an exit strategy and Pakistan want to capitalise before everything goes ape shit. Can you blame them. Pakistan has lost more than 30,000 civilians to terrorism and hundreds of soldiers.
AFGHAN WAR STATS
1) British Empire retires 1839-1919
2) Soviet Union defeated 1979-1989
3) US and its Allies humiliated 2001-2010
The great war machinery of the 3 successive empires is no match for the poorly armed, poorly equipped tenacious and virile Pashtun. Pashtunha

Yeah, ain’t Pakistan the very hub of enlightened foreign policy and revived Pashtun ethnic supremacism is exactly what Afghanistan needs…
Why don’t you release that gas from between your ears, Abu Fart it may allow you to think more clearly. Britain must continue in its relationship with Pakistan, a safe and secure Pakistan equates to a safer Britain. The last thing we want to see is Pakistan being used as a lauching pad for headcases, you maybe more familiar with the word ‘Islamist’
What would you know about Pashtun nationalism? Abu Faris? Duh????
