Mawdudi's Legacy
Abdulla Ahmed Ali 28, Tanvir Hussain 28 and Assad Sarwar 29 were arrested in August 2006. They were each accused of two charges of conspiracy to murder using home-made explosives.
All three were found guilty in an earlier trial of conspiracy to murder involving liquid bombs – but that jury could not decide whether their plans extended to detonating the devices on planes.
A Woolwich Crown Court jury has convicted them on the basis that a terror plot did exist.
Here’s Abdulla Ahmed Ali, the ringleader of the plot, regurgitating the Islamist doctrine of armed Jihad:
I’m doing this coz of the rewards, the big rewards that Allah promises those who step from this path and, inshallah, become martyrs. And the best of those rewards for me is the guarantee of Jannah [paradise] for myself, my family, and those who are close to me.
And on top of this is to punish and humiliate the kuffar. And to teach them a lesson that they will never forget. To tell them that we, the Muslims, are people of honour, we are people of Izza, we are brave, we are not cowards. And enough is enough.
We warned you so many times to get out of [Allah's?] land, but you have persisted in trying to humiliate us, kill us, and destroy us. Sheikh Osama warned you many times to leave our land or you will be destroyed and now the time has come for you to be destroyed. And you have nothing to expect but floods of martyrdom operations, volcanos of anger and revenge erupting among your capitals.
Here we could make the distiction, as Muslims often do, between that ‘greater jihad’ of peaceful self-sacrifice and spiritual improvement which was greatly valued by the Prophet and the ‘lesser jihad’ of physical warfare. It is the latter form of jihad upon which Islamists place far greater importance as a doctrine.
It is said that when the Prophet returned from battle, he said to his Companions: “You are returning from a lesser jihad to a greater jihad,” and when asked to clarify, he said the greater jihad “is the jihad against your passionate souls.” But of course, when Muslim terrorists such as Abdulla Ali speaks of “floods of martyrdom operations” he is not referring to the greater jihad, he is not speaking of the struggle against the passionate soul which the Prophet so highly recommended to his Companions. Ali is referring to the only form of jihad that modern Islamists know of: the armed ‘jihad’ of extremist terrorism which wreaks indiscriminate violence against innocent lives
Consider the doctrine of jihad as championed by the triumvirate of 20th-centurty Islamist gurus,the Muslim Brotherhood’s Sayyid Qutb and Hassan al-Banna, and Pakistan’s Abu Ala Mawdudi.
Sayyid Qutb:
“Any place where Islamic shariah is not enforced and where Islam is not dominant becomes the Home of Hostility (Dar-ul-Harb). … A Muslim will remain prepared to fight against it, whether it be his birthplace or a place where his relatives reside or where his property or any other material interests are located.”
“The basis of the message [Islam] is that one should accept the shariah without any question and reject all other laws in any shape or form. This is Islam.”
Hasan al-Banna:
“Agree unanimously that jihad is a communal defensive obligation imposed upon the Islamic ummah in order to broadcast the summons (to embrace Islam), and that it is an individual obligation to repulse the attack of unbelievers upon it.” However, as a result of unbelievers ruling Muslim lands and humbling Muslim honor: “It has become an individual obligation, which there is no evading, on every Muslim to prepare his equipment, to make up his mind to engage in jihad, and to get ready for it until the opportunity is ripe and God decrees a matter which is sure to be accomplished.”
A A Mawdudi:
“Jihad is part of this overall defence of Islam,”
“In the language of the Divine Law, this word [jihad] is used specifically for the war that is waged solely in the name of God against those who perpetrate oppression as enemies of Islam. This supreme sacrifice is the responsibility of all Muslims.”
“Jihad is as much a primary duty as are daily prayers or fasting. One who avoids it is a sinner. His every claim to being a Muslim is doubtful. He is plainly a hypocrite who fails in the test of sincerity and all his acts of worship are a sham, a worthless, hollow show of deception.”
Which is why Tarek Fatah has called on Muslim leaders to reject armed jihad as an obsolete doctrine in much the same way that slavery and concubinage have fallen by the wayside of suspect and rejected values.
Unless the leaders of British, American and Canadian mosques, as well as the Islamic organizations in these countries, denounce the doctrine of jihad as pronounced by the Muslim Brotherhood, and distance themselves from the ideology of Messrs. Qutb, Banna and Maudoodi, the insistence that “jihad means peace” will sound hollow. It will merely reinforce the suspicions of many Canadians who feel some overseas groups are pulling the strings in this carefully staged puppet show.
Now is the time for Islamic organizations to state flatly in their weekly sermons from the pulpit: Like slavery and concubinage, the doctrine of armed jihad is obsolete. If they do not, their public utterances should be viewed with suspicion and politicians of all stripes must lay down the law.
What are the chances that the MCB, an organisation which is riddled with the values of Maududi, will ever make a statement that the “jihad” of Maududi, Qutb and al-Banna is anything other than the advocacy of terrorism?

Jihaad today is still very much alive in its essence, in its purest form, true to its original meaning, as it was when the command was communicated to the believers. True there are hypocrites and cynics that walk hand in hand out there trying to pick on Jihaad at every turn, making the Muslims feel as though they have to live as 2nd class citizens by forcing them to feel apologetic about their divine beliefs. Such tyrants exist in all generations and they will get their due. Jihaad is an everlasting concept in this world that will last no matter what clowns like you and Tarek Fateh will go on quacking on and on about.
The concept of Jihaad needs to come out of hiding and Madressas and Islamic Schools up and down the country need very much to be actively promoting it through education and discussion. Physical Education should be replaced with Jihad training for young children where they are taught to partake in archery, horse-riding and swimming as opposed to the pointless and time wasting activities that these kuffar make our children accustomed to through their poison brainwashing techniques. Only then will the Salahuddin Ayubi’s be born again in the west, and only then will we have strong, physically trained & mentally skilled men and women, that will put their talents to good use by regulating Islamic practice from within as well as defending it from those external vultures looming above.

I doubt you’re going to get many jihadis like Salahuddin Ayubis coming forth from Islamist circles. The best you can hope for are nasty violent murderers like the three losers who have been convicted of plotting explosions on transatlantic flights.

Archery and horse-riding? Yep, they’ll both come in handy on the modern battlefield.
But swimming? What’s that all about? Is there some sort of ‘Club 18-30′ for jihadists? And if, so how do we sign up?
How you can people like you and hypocrites like Tareq Fateh claim that armed Jihad needs to be discarded? Didn’t you know that as Muslims our source of guidance is in fact the Quran, the word of Allah, and not the opinions apologetic so called Muslims? (or have you decided that the Quran is not a suitable source of guidance for us 21st century Muslims) ?
The Quran very clearly states our obligation as Muslims to fight for the rights of the weak and oppressed (4:75) and to retaliate with violence when we are met with violence (2:190).

You are aware that he was a Kurd and might have taken some exception to being called a Westerner – especially given the certainly Western Crusaders he spent rather a lot of time fighting?

According to ahadith collected by Bukhari, one of the characteristics of the munafiqun is that when they speak, they lie (see: Sahih Bukhari, Book 2, 31-32).
The translation “hypocrite” doesn’t really do the Arabic word “munafiq’ justice, so to speak.
But why should anyone assume Tareq is lying, can’t we disagree with someone without accusing them of lying?
I couldn’t agree with you more, Abu Wannabe Arab. However, I was simply trying to get into the head of Adel – if that be a wise thing to do.
It would be nice to ignore idiots like adel, who crow mindlessly about their “divine beliefs.” unfortunately, it’s just such idiots who blow themselves up, killing women and young children (but that’s ok, I suppose, because they go to paradise, right?) in the process, all because of blind faith in a silly book written 1400 years ago, full of mistakes and reprehensible ethics. I doubt adel has ever had a free thought in his life: trained, no doubt from an early age, not to question Islam, no matter what.
THIS is the trouble with mainstream Islam, and until it’s addressed – until there is an Islamic enlightenment – the leap from moderation to fanaticism is as easy as lighting a pipe bomb.
