Last weekend saw some ugly scenes in Birmingham when a group calling itself Casuals United held a protest in the City Centre. There was a similar protest held in Birmingham last month well.
Casuals United say they are only opposed to Islamist extremism but that is not the case. The group is little more than a fascist front, opposed to all Muslims in Britain as this clip of their protest last month demonstrates:
Notable chants in the video come at:
- 6:26 – I just want Muslim scum to go (a person off camera says this to whoever is filming)
- 6:48 – We want Muslims out
- 7:42 – Who are you? Who are you? (The implication being that Muslims are not British)
- 9:08 – Muslims out
All Muslims are conflated with extremists, destroying the supposed ‘anti-extremist’ spin the organisers tried to put on things. Sadly it was not a one-off. According to the website of the English Defence League protests have been held in:
- 24th May 2009: Luton
- 27th June 2009: Whitechapel, London
- 4th July 2009: Wood Green, London
- 4th July 2009: Birmingham City Centre, the Bull ring (footage provided above)
There are already plans for another protest on August 30 in Birmingham. All this has stoked some real and obvious cases of anti-Muslim bigotry resulting in a surge of attacks. Some very obvious cases are:
- The firebombing of the Islamic Relief charity shop in Glasgow.
- The arson attack on the Greenwich Islamic Centre which left the 62 year old caretaker with burn injuries. According to Engage this place was firebombed twice in one week but I could not find another source for that.
- An arson attack on the Luton Islamic Centre.
- Bomb threats against the Glasgow Central mosque with accompanying threats to behead a Muslim if all Mosques in Scotland were not closed down immediately by a man who described himself as a ‘proud racist’.
It is indisputable that since the BNP won seats in the European parliament and the munafiqs from al-Muhajiroun protested against returning British servicemen from Iraq there has been a sharp and unprecedented spike in attacks against British Muslims. This problem is not just limited to Britain however. There was also the disgraceful murder of Marwa Sherbini recently in Germany.
All extremists threaten the values of our liberal society. We must unite against them all.

I deplore racism, & probably these people were racists.
However, muslims are not noted for their ability to integrate in any society, & multiculturalism positively discourages integration.
What do you expect when islamists & hate preachers are allowed to take over whole sections of our cities ?
I don’t think the protestors were nice middle class liberals, but their world has been turned upside down over the last decade.
The material I have seen suggests violent muslims were attacking any white man they could get their hands on.
To be painfully honest, our only relationship with islam was when they were slavers. We aren’t any more. Some of them still are. Many muslims are not happy in Europe & they should return to where they will be happy.
We must not put back the clock 1,000 years to accommodate uninvited immigrants.
…the munafiqs from al-Muhajiroun protested against returning British servicemen from Iraq…
Loathing was the well-nigh universal reaction to that, no? You’d think Anjem must be some kind of BNP stooge., given how well he furthers their cause.
Martin,
I agree with your anti-racist stance. I also share your abhorence of the criminal element amonst muslim immigrants which incites hatred, legal non-compliance and violence against non-muslims. These problems are actually worse than you might think in certain parts of the UK. However, it has to be recognized that these disruptive elements are a minority element within muslim groups – just as any cultural group will have its criminal elements.
They should be seen for what they are and tackled accordingly, but not by pushing away the entire muslim populace. This only exarcerbates the problem.
But I disagree with your assesment that “our only relationship with islam was when they were slavers”. Your relationship actually dates back to at least 773 A.D, when King Offa of England (the one who made the dyke) was minting coins with Arab calligraphy on them (some of them still on display in the British Museum) to be able to trade spices, cloths and dyes with the Arab Muslims. This was followed by many centuries of shared learning where designated members of monasteries would be sent to the Arab lands to bring back books of translated Greek texts, and often original writings from Arabs in the bargain. For example, even up unto the 1850′s, the “Cannon of Medicine” (Al-Kanun as-Shifa) of Ibn Sina was being studied in pretty much every medical college in England.
And if you were to put back the clock 1,000 years, you’d probably find that the “uninvited immigrants” of the day were the Normans.
The protest against the soldiers, when they were shouted at and called child killers and other disgusting things, has pushed things to a new extreme. It is almost like that was the straw that broke the camel’s back, and led to a wave of revulsion that I feel those extremists are very happy about. After all, they and the far-right feed off each other. It is an utterly depressing affair. The revulsion was universal, but it seems to have galvanised the far-right, and the fact that it was only a handful of extremists who did it does not matter, they wish to foment hatred and are using it as a pretext to push their hateful agenda.
“However, muslims are not noted for their ability to integrate in any society, & multiculturalism positively discourages integration.”
On what basis do you say that “muslims are not noted for their ability to integrate in any society”? I see no evidence for that proposition at all.
There are two factors that have discouraged cohesion. The first is the successful agitation of South Asian and Middle Eastern clerical fascist groupings: some of which have been mistaken for progressive organisations by those on the far and centre Left. The second is that many white “liberals” think that a Muslim who is also a liberal is an “Uncle Tom” or otherwise “inauthentic”, and instead have decided that political and religious extremism is the badge of the ‘true Muslim’.
Racists, Islamists and some ‘nice liberals’ share precisely the same perspective on Muslims.

Coming froma white Briton thats pretty rich. We are all here speaking in English: why arent uninvited white immigrants in America or Australia or New Zealand or Canda speaking in those countries native tongues?
(and BTW Muslim immigrants in this country were invited:by democratically elected governements which is more than can be said for the aforementioned immigrants to the US or the Normans)

Says someone who runs a blog based on Jewish identity politics!!
Yeah we speak the native tongue, innit.
